I told the girls that now that we knew how they played; we could really prepare ourselves when we play against them next weekend for sectionals.
October 9: Eastern Hancock
Yesterday we played at Eastern Hancock which was our last away game of the season. In the first game, we played like we were still in our pajamas. Girls were sleepy and did not play at their best. There was a lot of slow action, and they were fast. We couldn’t keep up with them and lost 13-25. The second game, we were more determined and played at our level. We started the game beautifully and maintained our lead the whole game. They called a timeout when we were at 22-15. I warned the girls that now they were mad and they were going to play harder so that meant we would need to play better. They actually played harder and beat us 23-25. In the third game, both teams wanted the win. We were both head to head all the way until the last few points 22-21. They served in and played nicely. We tried to come back but couldn’t and the game ended with a score of 22-25. I wanted to say that our starting freshman, Tiara Finch played really well. She really stopped their front row by blocking a lot of their hits.
October 5-6: Central States Schools for the Deaf (CSSD) @ Illinois Deaf
This recent weekend we competed in the CSSD volleyball tournament at Illinois School for the Deaf. We played against 4 other teams (round robin) before we were seeded for the actual tournament.
Friday night we played against the North Star, a charter school from Minnesota. The scores were 25-10 and 25-11; all of our players had the chance to play which was really nice. We were very impressed with North Star's sportsmanship. They remained positive during the entire tournament.
In the second match we played against Michigan School for the Deaf, and again everyone had the chance to play. The scores were 25-3 and 25-10. As a team, we made 26 aces!
On Saturday, we continued in the round robin, playing against Ohio School for the Deaf. This was the best game we had played the whole tournament. The team played beautifully together. Amanda Phillips contributed 3 aces and 4 kills. Amber Miniard made 9 assists.
Last game in the round robin was against Illinois School for the Deaf. We started badly. They took advantage of our mistakes, but we managed to come back and win by the score of 26 to 24. We chanted perfect pass, good set and hard spike before the second game. The girls were more determined to win at a comfortable lead, and we did by the score of 25-14 Amber Miniard made 9 assists. Amanda Phillips served 100% with 7 aces. Ann Whited made 9 kills.
We were seeded #1 and played against Michigan again. We won both games by the score of 25-12 and 25-11. Ann Whited made 7 aces and 5 kills. Amanda Phillips made 5 kills and Amber Miniard contributed 6 assists. Betsy Huber made 2 assists.

Yesterday we played a game against Whiteland. We lost the match. The scores were 12-25, 12-25 and 11-25. I have to say that even though we lost, the girls have improved so much in some areas. I'm really proud of them.
October 1: Indianapolis City Tourney vs. Tech
Yesterday we played in our first All-City tournament. We played against Tech in the first round here on our territory. Earlier in the season, we beat them and so our expecations were set high, and it resulted in a heart-breaking loss.
We struggled in the whole match, giving them a lot of points based on our mistakes. First game, we lost 20-25. We also lost the second game by the score of 22-25. Girls were determined to go for the fifth game and win. They played harder in the third game and their reward was a win, 25-15. In the fourth game, our girls couldn't maintain the fire they ignited. We tried to come back after they caught up to us but couldn’t. They won by the score of 22-25.

September 26: Ritter
Yesterday we went to Ritter to play against them. I told the girls that they were very good and that we would need to play our game and to bring it up a notch. Most of the girls looked shocked when we played our first game. The score ended with us losing by the score of 3-25. Going in the second game, we forgot all about our nerves and played our best. We took advantage of their mistakes, especially their serve receptions. Ann Whited, Tiara Finch and Jessica Holsinger all served couple of aces. 4 NICE digs were made. Tiara started blocking which gave more relief for our defense. Although we played better, we still lost by the score of 13-25. Girls were mentally exhausted at the beginning of the third game. We could not keep up with them and lost 5-25. Our record now is 6 wins and 11 losses.
September 22: Spike Out IX @ Texas Deaf
Saturday was the tournament day. In the first round, we played against California Deaf School, Fremont. In the first game, our girls did a wonderful job. their servng percentage was 93%. We were hot and they couldn't catch us up. We won with a score of 25-14. We got too comfortable and played the 2nd game with less desire. The Fremont girls caught up with us and maintained their lead. We made a lot of errors and couldn't catch up. We lost 17-25. Our girls became emotionally worn out. when going in the third game. We started the game carefully, served in, and
played smart the lead. It was until the Fremont player scored 5 points, then we lost our lead. We finally got the ball back but could not score. Then they scored 4 points, a lot based on our errors. We couldn't catch up and lost 8-15. It was a very upsetting loss, especially when we had a strong finish in the first game after which everyone thought we would advance. We crumbled and lost the last 2 games. It was a game of
"who wants it more?" nevertheless, I'm still very proud of our young, rebuilt team.
Highlights: 6 exceptional assists and very solid defense by Amber Miniard. 10 kills from Amanda Phillips and Tiara Finch made 4 aces.

Third match on Friday was against Phoenix Day School for the Deaf (PDSD) we knew they were a good team. We have heard that they improved so much this year so

Then, the second game, we let our confidence get to us. PDSD stepped up and played harder and it was a close game but we lost. 24 to 26. The last match on Friday was against Maryland Deaf, the toughest match
of the day. We were so fired up and ready to beat MSD. Everyone stayed on
their toes and went for every ball that came in their way. It was a very emotional game for us. We started the game with solid defense and smart offense, but ended with a loss. 20-25. When going into the second game, I could feel how tense the girls were. It affected how our girls played. We scored a lot on our mistakes and lost 12-25.

was very satisfying!

We couldn't maintain our lead and lost... 20 to 25. In the second game, our mistakes got the best of us. We also couldn't stop several of their power servers. The game ended with us losing, 8-25. We went in the third game determined to win this one. We were back to serving in, and we serve-received beautifully. There were a lot of bad referee calls. The girls started to lose focus, but we were still determined. With the score 24-16, we played smart. We went up to 22. They surprised us with a game ending dump. We lost 22 to 25.
August 28: Bethesda Christian
Yesterday we traveled to Brownsburg to play against Bethesda Christian.
We immediately noticed during warm-ups that they had 1 power player. The whole 3 games we played, their number 12 played real smart. She found our holes and weakness. We tried to outsmart her but couldn't. We lost the match. The scores were 14-25, 9-25 and 11-25. But this game was different; we didn't feel down after losing. We felt like winners. The girls performed beautifully and have improved immensely. After making 14 serving errors the last match, they made only 2 errors yesterday! There were a lot of beautiful serve receptions.

We had our second match of the season, against Lapel. In the first and second game, the score was 25 to 9, in Lapel’s favor. The third game ended with 11-25, also in Lapel’s favor. We discovered our strengths and figured out our weaknesses. This was a good match for us as we learned our lessons.
August 14: Southwestern
We had our first match of the season yesterday. Southwestern came to our territory. The girls started the game feeling nervous and tense. We lost the first game. 14-25. We started the 2nd game on fire. The girls played well and made a lot of beautiful passes, sets and kills, but we couldn't get past them and lost, 21 to 25. In the third game, we were back to square one. We made a lot of forced errors and lost the last
game. 7-25. We want to thank the fans that showed up and supported us.
