October 19 IISL Tournament: Heritage Christian
Yesterday we traveled to Kingsway Christian to play against Heritage Christian in the championship match. The volley net was a little bit too taller. The HC and the ISD coaches agreed that it was too tall, but we still went ahead and played. In the 1st game, we started off pretty well and made a couple of good defensive plays. Tiara Finch made one of best kills in the season, probably in her life. She has really blossomed to be a star volleyball player. We trailed them but kept the score close and the game exciting. HC made some errors which we needed from them. Unfortunately we made errors too. We had to be perfect to beat them. But, we lost 14-25. It was great game, much better played than the one we first played against HC in the regular season. The 2nd game was similar to the 1st game. Like the motto says, "Nobody is perfect." We had to be perfect and be able to take advantage of their errors. We didn't execute a perfect game. It was played good by both teams. Unfortunately, HC outlasted us, and we lost 13-25. We are the runner-up of IISL tournament. The coaches were proud of the girls and how they played on the floor regardless the result. Also in our eyes we are the champion! Congratulations to the girls for their hard work; it paid off with a good season. We would like to thank our parents, staff and fans for their wonderful, continuous support! Also we wanted to thank our AD, Brian Bippus, for the season and the opportunity to play volleyball. We will be back next year! Our goal is an obvious one - to win the championship!
October 17 IISL Tournament: St. Richard's
Yesterday we hosted St. Richards in the semifinal match whom we played them twice and won both this season. The 1st game was alright but the girls played pretty good. Our servings were not that great as we should have but still we won 25-11. Coach Schwall asked the girls to play better for 2nd game. We noticed that St. Richards was very hungry and wanted to win badly while we didn't show any kind of "hunger." We gave away some points which helped them out to keep the score closer. Coach Schwall had to instill the girls to play with fire and hungry to win. TraciAnn Hoglind and Jessica Holsinger served well with consistency which helped our cause to keep lead score. We won 25 to 24 in a nail-biting fashion to end the important match, because we advanced to the championship round. We must increase to a higher level of entering the championship match on Thursday at Kingsway Christian. Because Kingsway Christian and Heritage Christian are not easy to beat, they crushed us in the regular season play.
October 16 IISL Tournament: Bethesda
Yesterday we hosted Bethesda Christian in the KRC. It was our 1st IISL playoff match of this season. Bethesda team was fired up and wanted to beat us badly. We couldn't let that happen, because we didn't want to lose to another Bethesda team in the playoff. Bethesda beat us in 5/6th grade championship game last year. To our advantage we played on our court with our wonderful fans. In the 1st game we both started well but a little rusty. It was hotly contested game from both teams and the score was close all the way. We made a couple of errors and had to play through our emotions and nervousness. At the score of 24-24, Coach Schwall called a timeout to explain that we must pour our hearts out and play with fire. Eventually, we did with nail biters for everyone and won the game 27-25. The 2nd game was much the same as the 1st game. But, we played better and Bethesda played better too. So it was decided by who was the best team. It was another nail biter game, and we won 26-24. It was very emotional for everyone of us, and we were happy with our win. We want to thank the fans for their wonderful continuous support and their great spirit! We advanced to the semifinal game either against International School of Indiana (ISI) or St. Richards.
October 11: Lynhurst
Yesterday we hosted Lynhurst in KRC. It was the last regular match of this season. Fortunately it was in our home court. Coach Schwall explained to the girls that we must play aggressive, smart and with no errors. The 1st game, we responded with 8 straight serving points from Jessica Holsinger in the opening drive. Then, Jenna Smith made 6 straight serving points. We were in a huge lead, 16-3 and never looked back. We won 25-15. The 2nd game, we started slow and the contest was hot. When we were leading 13-8, Jessica Holsinger made another serving points streak with 10 straight. We got the victory, 25-11. The regular season ended with a winning record of 12-4, and IISL record of 10-2. We're seeded #2 in the playoff format. We'll play either Bethesda Christian or Park Tudor next week on Monday in KRC. The winner of Bethesda Christian and Park Tudor match will be decided today.
October 10: St. Richard's
We just got back into IISL division from Chapel Hill Christian 8th Grade Tournament, where we were 1-1 in tournament play. We had to beat St. Richard's because St. Richard's were eager to upset us. It was their last home game where they had a pre-game celebration. We didn't let that to faze us anyway. The 1st game, we started to show who we are by taking a huge lead. We never looked back and won 25-16. The 2nd game, we were off of playing on the floor and let them get into the game with us. We struggled with our plays and tried to overcome the struggles. The girls looked tired too, but fortunately it's our volleyball skills that helped to stay in the game. It was hotly contested game and we made a couple of errors which helped the score close. We barely won 25-24.
Whew! St. Richard's were crushed at end because they thought they had the 2nd game. We were glad we didn't let it happen.
October 7 Chapel Hill Tourney: Carmel
In the championship match, Carmel had good height and looked like a real good team that resembled Heritage Christian. In the first game, we played slow and made a couple of errors. We lost 14-25. In the second game we played better, but Carmel played better too. We lost 14-25. Carmel was a good team that made less errors and made a couple of great plays. But, we played our best and the game was challenging for us! Overall, the tournament went well for us. It was good preparation for playing in the IISL tournament starting next week. The Chapel Hill Christian AD thanked us and would like for us to participate next year.
October 7 Chapel Hill Tourney: Chapel Hill
Last Saturday we went to Chapel Hill Christian 8th Grade Volleyball Tournament. Chapel Hill Christian, Plainfield, Carmel and ISD competed in the tournament. We played Chapel Hill Christian in our 1st match. The match was well-played for both teams. We beat CHC 25-21 in the first game. We lost the second game, 19-25. In the third game we escaped due to their errors, and we played awesome. We won 25-11. We advanced to the
championship match with Carmel.
October 5: Heritage Christian
Yesterday we traveled to Heritage Christian. In the pre-game warm-up, they got the coaches' attention by spiking the balls and their size was pretty big as if they looked like freshmen or sophomores.
Coach Schwall explained to the girls that we must play at our best and without errors. We can't let ourselves get down and can't give up. We must keep our heads up to play the game. In the 1st game, they took the lead and showcased their awesome volleyball skills. We battled and battled. We didn't have their "elite" volleyball skills, but we survived by playing the game. We lost 4-25. In the 2nd game, they put their 2nd stringers on the floor. It would be good battle between us. They took an early lead, but we battled and rallied. We made some awesome plays on the floor that sparked our plugs. They led most of the game until the score of 24, but we kept the score close all the way. We finally caught up and tied at 24. Unfortunately, they got the best out of us and lost 24-25. It was a great game.
October 3: Sycamore
Yesterday we traveled to Sycamore for a rematch. We beat them earlier on our court. The girls were hungry to play better because of our loss to Kingsway previously. Coach Schwall explained that it was up to the girls if they want to win they must show their volleyball skills on the floor. Also they must be persistent with good plays. In the 1st game, we started off good and took the lead, ran away and never lost the lead. We played very well. We won 25-13. In the 2nd game, we played almost like the 1st game. We won 25-16. It was good win for us. Finally we saw persistent on the floor and made good plays. It was a total satisfaction for all of us.
September 28: Kingsway Christian
Yesterday we traveled to Kingsway Christian. We had no idea how good they were as they were undefeated before our match. In the 1st game, we were cautious with their serving as we saw their pre-game warm-up. It backfired on us, and they escaped with early lead. We made a couple of errors and they didn't. We never rallied and lost the game 17-25. In the 2nd game, we forgot the result of the 1st game and were ready to play with fire. Unfortunately, they were perfect on the floor and caused us to work a lot harder. They ran away with the lead and never made errors. We were crushed badly and lost 6-25. We were off in our playing. We realized we cannot make small errors, and we must learn to overcome our struggles on the floor. It was tough for us to swallow, but it's not the end of the season. We've got a lot of work to do to improve. We just need to be persistent with our volleyball skills and performance on the floor. Our next game is next Tuesday; it is a rematch with St. Richard's who we beat last Tuesday.
September 26: St. Richard's
Yesterday we hosted St. Richard's in KRC. The 1st game we started off well and took early lead. We were not in good serving game, but the chemistry played on the floor was awesome and smooth. It was impossible for St. Richard's to keep up with our playing style. We ran away with the score and won 25-15. The 2nd game we had better serving game than the 1st game. Our chemistry on the floor was much the same. They just couldn't figure us out and we kept playing well. We won 25-15. It is our 8 straight match winning streak. We also are undefeated in our IISL record, which is our playoff format. We continue to strive on winning. Coach Schwall was very pleased to see the girls to maintain with the chemistry played on the floor.
September 21: Sycamore
Yesterday we hosted Sycamore in the KRC. In the 1st game we started off cold but we managed to play with our hearts. We also took advantage of their errors. Tiara Finch was jumping all over the floor making great kills. We won the game 25-17. In the 2nd game we played better and they played better too. We had to work harder and still got the best out of them. It was an ugly win for us 25-21. We are on our 7 straight match winning streak!
September 19: International
On Tuesday we traveled to the International School of Indiana. In the 1st game we ran away with the lead and never looked back. It was our good chemistry that helped our confidence on the floor. The highlight of the game was Kate Fetzer who made a couple of excellent serves. We won 25-12. The 2nd game was same result as the 1st game. It was no match for us, but still we developed our chemistry on the floor. We won 25-16.
September 14: Bethesda Christian
Yesterday we hosted Bethesda Christian in the KRC. In the 1st game we started off pretty well and Bethesda did play well which kept our game exciting. It was well played on both sides but we got the best of them. We had really good chemistry creating good plays on the floor. We won 25-13. In the 2nd game we got ahead real quick with an early start. They rallied but we never let them take the lead. We beat them 25-20. The girls were huge with joy because we got our revenge with their defeat from last year in the 5/6 grade championship match. We paid them back. Coach Schwall was proud to see the chemistry really work and expected to see it continue to our next game.
September 12: Park Tudor
Yesterday we played against Park Tudor, our longtime rival on their court. In our 1st game, we started playing well and made minimal errors. We got the best of them and won 25-17. In the 2nd game we carried from 1st game and played well. Overall we are a better team. We won 25-15. Coach Schwall is very pleased to see the results on the floor. We played the game for fun as well as to develop in some areas and to give the second stringers a chance to play. We lost that game, but it didn't count as officially. We are ready to give a back from our first loss last year season in the 5/6 grade level championship game vs. Bethesda Christian on Thursday in KRC.
September 7: International
Yesterday we hosted a match with International in KRC. In our 1st game, we started slow and made a couple of mental errors. But, we stayed alive and fought throughout the game. Unfortunately, we came up short and lost 21-25. Coach Schwall told the girls if they want to win so badly, they needed to play the heart out. It was up to the girls. In the 2nd game, we played better. They put their 2nd stringers on the floor which was a good thing because we had an opportunity to get back to the game from our "hibernation." We won 25-12. In the 3rd game, we played against a group that beat us in the 1st game. Kate Fetzer made 6 straight serving aces which was the key to the winning match; we won the game 15-8. The girls who played hearts out did not give up from the 1st game loss and played good hard throughout the matches.
September 5: Traders Point
Yesterday we hosted Traders Point in the KRC. They came in looking ready and their pre-warm up really looked good. In our 1st game we started off hot firing with great teamwork efforts. We never looked back and won 25-8. In the 2nd game it was a slow start for us, but they were making too many errors which was to our advantage. We never looked back and still won 25-7. We are starting to feel good about ourselves and realized we were developing great team chemistry. We would like to continue carrying it over to the next game.
August 29: Orchard
Yesterday we hosted Orchard at KRC which was our 1st home match of the year. In the 1st game we played a slow start and rusty. There was a see-saw game taking turns with leading score. Fortunately we held them off and won 25-23. In the 2nd game we carried from 1st game that we played slow and rusty. However we took advantage by with our better playing experience than Orchard had. We won 25-18. Coach Schwall was proud to congratulate the girls our 1st victory of the year! Also she was proud to see the girls playing better than our 1st match from last week.
August 24: Edinburgh
Yesterday, it was our 1st match of the season. We played at Edinburgh. We have two 8th graders and eight 7th graders. We have a high expectation that we will be good team. We are building the girls to play top notch volleyball before entering high school level. In our first game, we started off rusty but were able to maintain with their lead in score. Unfortunately we lost 24-25. The second game, we finally started playing what we would like to see. Tiara Finch made a great kill! We were jumping into a joy and loved it! We won 25-18. The third game, we started off poorly making too many mental errors. But we caught up so many points and tied the game at 14. It was a see-saw game and we lost 14-15. In our eyes we won the game. Also there was a bad call which we fought it off. We were proud of the girls playing up to their best even though we didn't have good chemistry yet. |
