May 12: Park Tudor (IISL Tourney)
We jumped with a bang during the first inning leading 8-0. We improved our offensive performance averaging 7 runs a game but we still need to work on defense and pitching. We wish Kyle Bingham, Cody Mitchell, Andrew Morrill, and Dylan Osborne the best when they will move to High School. Our boys surely had a memorable season, even though, we only won once. Head Coach Long and Assistants Harper and Smith
May 6: Lynhurst Center
Dylan Osborne returned as our starting pitcher and pitched pretty good for 3 innings giving up only 4 runs. Our hitting was not there as most of the boys did not get any chance to hit well. It was our last regular season. Will play against Park Tudor on Monday for the IISL Tournament.
May 5: Bethesda Christian
We played at a nice baseball field. We were down by a run with score of 7-8 through the four innings. All of a sudden the game turned around, we gave the opponents 16 runs with five different pitchers in one inning. Andrew Morrill played his best performance with a double and a single twice to the left field. Tony Long just missed his two-foot foul from a Grand Slam Home Run. Brett Clark did a great job catching in the game later. As an offensive team, we are fairly good hitters, but we are in need of pitchers.
May 1: Calvary Lutheran (doubleheader)
We got better playing the second game. It was really a very nice FIRST win for boys after some hard-fought games that we have played lately. Some of the players hit good and made some smart plays than we did during the first game. Tony Long pitched 5 innings in the first game. Chace Shaffer pitched only 2 innings in the second game and gave us his best performance ever. It was a great feeling seeing the boys' smiling faces and celebrated a victory.
April 29: Sycamore
We did not start well in the game especially with pitching in the first inning. We gave up too many passed balls but we got better in the middle of the innings. Some of the boys tried at different defensive positions which they have showed some improvement.
April 23: Traders Point
ISD Deaf Hoosiers had only 10 players and it was one of our best game in the beginning but our boys' mental mistakes, fatigue, and careless strategies took over. Tony Long pitched 6 innings and struck out ten. He also hit a double. Travis Collett hit a 2 run double. DJ Smith, who played with an injured knee, singled and stole home. Kyle Bingham, who got hit by pitch and scored a run , caught a good job behind the plate. Kenny Long also singled and scored. Three runs were not enough for us to get a first win. We played at a very nice ball park Eagle Creek Little League Diamonds. Some boys did a good job bunting and some hard hits.
April 22: Orchard
One of their best pitchers pitched all 3 innings. We had only one hit and all players got to bat once and we were not given much of an opportunity to get to the plate. We had a bittersweet experience especially to keep the boys' heads up.
April 17: Orchard
Is it a football season here already? Orchard is so powerful team. We hung in there with score of 10-15 going into bottom of 4th inning but they ran off 9 straight runs. We used 5 different pitchers and we could not stop them. Their pitchers are so good but we managed to get 8 hits and 10 runs getting plenty of stolen bases.
April 15: Indianapolis Kings
We played against a very talented and experienced team, especially their pitching skills. Our 6th graders Kenny Long and DJ Smith got their pitching debut for Middle School and they did pretty good. Chace Shaffer pitched open then Kyle Bingham closed out the game. We already used another 4 pitchers (Tony Long, Dylan Osborne, Travis Collett, and Cody Mitchell) during first two games. We are going to be comfortable with our pitching rotation. Kings pitchers have used a variety of ball control which was to their advantage.
April 14: Park Tudor
If we are to play another inning, will it make a difference? The boys made several mental errors that sent us to our second loss in two games. We need to cut down on our mistakes especially throwing and catching errors then we can start winning the games. We were down by a run in 5th inning and we lost it. Our hitting offense is pretty strong but we always need to work on defense. We lost by 9 to 15. Coaches still can feel that the boys are making a lot of progress.
April 9: Mt. Vernon
We could have won the game 11-9 but one of our relief pitcher was called for a "balk" so the game resumed into 8th inning. We could not hold on with two outs as they scored three runs in 8th inning. We led the most of the game. We scored first 3 runs in first inning. Our starting pitcher Dylan Osborne played a splendid game striking out 14 and went 4 for 5 with 3 RBIs. Behind the plate caught all the way was Kyle Bingham. As a team we got 16 hits out of 44 at bats for .363 average with only 4 Ks. All players got at least one hit and run expect for two. Tony Long and Cody Mitchell got 3 hits apiece. Coaches Harper, Long, and Smith are very very proud of how the boys played with a great attitude and perseverance hanging in there until the end of game. The boys obviously were very disappointed hoping for a victory but in our hearts WE WON! |
